An Executive Bureau meeting of the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) was held in Mexico City, the capital of Mexico. It was attended by representatives of the UCLG delegation, as well as members of the Tbilisi City Municipal Assembly β Nino Vardosanidze, head of the Legal Issues and Human Rights Protection Commission, and Levan Abashidze, Head of the Denomination and Symbols Commission.
The meeting took place from 8 to 10 April 2026 and brought together approximately 300 delegates from around the world, including leaders of local governments, representatives of municipal assemblies, and experts.
The main themes of the sessions covered contemporary trends in urban development and the formation of sustainable cities, the impact of climate change at the local level, and the need to strengthen adaptation policies. Particular attention was given to enhancing local democracy and developing mechanisms for citizen participation.
In addition, the meeting addressed issues of municipal financial sustainability, effective resource management, and digital transformation processes, including directions for the development of βsmart cities.β Participants also discussed ensuring social inclusion, equal access to municipal services, crisis management, and strengthening the role of local governments in emergency situations.
