Mission and Goals<\/span. <\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia (NALAG) is a non-governmental, nonprofit and non-political organization which unites all entities of local self-governance. NALAG aims at further developing the local self-governance system; developing democracy at the local level; decentralizing the government power throughout the country; and developing the local self-governance institutions. Protection and strengthening of the principles of gender equality and gender mainstreaming in achieving the mentioned goals is one of the important priorities of NALAG.<\/p>\n

National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia was established at the joint initiative of the Council of Europe and European Commission on 17 December 2004. 600 delegates from all levels of self-governance (village, community, town and city) were invited at the founding congress of NALAG. The delegates approved the Charter of NALAG and elected its President and Executive Board. Many international organizations were involved in the founding process.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The main objectives of the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia are as follows:<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u2022 Defend interests of local self-government bodies at the national and international level; Promote development of local democracy in Georgia;<\/p>\n

\u2022 Cooperate with the central authorities on decentralization issues;<\/p>\n

\u2022 cooperate with the central government in the field of decentralization;<\/p>\n

\u2022 Promote raising the qualification level of civil servants and elected officials at the self-government entities and secure social guarantees;<\/p>\n

Identify problems of the local self-governance and interconnect local self-government bodies, generalize\/introduce the existing practical experience and achievements;<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

NALAG cooperates with many international organizations and European unions of local authorities.<\/p>\n

National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia is a partner of the Government of Georgia in proposing members of Georgian delegation to the Chamber of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
