The European Charter for Equality of Women and Men in Local Life already has 36 signatory municipalities in Georgia.
With the advocacy of the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia (NALAG), the municipalities of Kharagauli, Tkibuli, Akhaltsikhe, and Khelvachauri have now joined the document.
The first persons of these municipalities confirmed once again their readiness to contribute to the establishment of the principles of gender equality at the local level by signing the document.
The Charter, which was created in May 2006 by the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR), offers municipalities instruments to develop relevant action plans and effectively use existing resources to ensure equal rights for women and men.
The advocacy of this Charter is being carried out within the framework of the project βWomenβs Increased Leadership for Democracy in Georgiaβ, which is implemented by NALAG with the support of UN Women, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, and the Government of Norway.
The signing ceremony of the European Charter for Equality of Women and Men in Local Life was held at the 8th National Conference of NALAG. The event was attended by representatives of the central and executive authorities, as well as non-governmental organizations and international organizations, the first persons of Georgian municipalities, and public officials
