The “Youth Forum for Local Municipalities: Social and Economic Empowerment of Youth” was held in Rustavi. The Tbilisi City Assembly, Rustavi City Hall, and the Education, Science, and Youth Affairs Committee of the Parliament of Georgia organised it. The National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia and the Youth Agency of the Ministry of Science and Youth supported the event.
The forum was held within the framework of the International Youth Day to facilitate the social and economic progress of the rural youth.
Attendees were addressed by NALAG’s Vice-President and the Chair of the Tbilisi City Assembly, Giorgi Tkemaladze, a delegate nominated to the Committee of Young Elected Politicians of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) under the auspices of NALAG, the Chairman of the Sports and Youth Affairs Commission of the Tbilisi City Assembly, GuramOkropiridze; Member of the Executive Board of NALAG and Rustavi Mayor, Nino Latsabidze; the Minister of Education, Science, and Youth, Giorgi Amilakhvari; the Chair of the Education, Science, and Youth Affairs Committee, Givi Mikanadze; his First Deputy and the initiator of the creation of the Forum, Giorgi Chakvetadze; Single Mandate MP for Rustavi and Gardabani, Irakli Shatakishvili; and the State Trustee to Kvemo Kartli, Giorgi Dokhturashvili.
The speakers discussed the forum’s importance, highlighting its goals and future plans.
According to Giorgi Tkemaladze, although the Tbilisi Municipality implements many programs to promote youth events, initiatives led directly by young people will bring significant change to the country. These initiatives will also contribute to strengthening cooperation between municipalities, encouraging the active involvement of young people in all areas of public life, and ensuring the effective implementation of youth policy.
As Guram Okropiridze mentioned, the project aims to strengthen the municipal role in implementing the youth strategy and promote young people’s social and economic development.
The Mayor of Rustavi, Nino Latsabidze, emphasized in her speech the importance of holding the forum in Rustavi and informed the audience about the projects focused on the social and economic empowerment of young people in the municipality.
The Forum discussion panels include the state youth strategy for 2023-2026, the role of the local authorities in the implementation of the hereof document, the state internship program, youth project financing and the engagement of the youth in the decision-making process.
Within the Forum, the young members of all 64 Assemblies will vote for the Draft Resolution “Social and Economic Empowerment of the Youth”. The Draft stipulates the critical recommendations for the authorities and other subjects.
The event was attended by NALAG’s Vice President, Mayor of Dusheti Municipality Manana (Matsatso) Narimanidze, advisor to the Executive Director of the Association and Member of the Tbilisi City Assembly Vladimer Bozhadze, and Deputy Executive Director Lasha Archvadze. Additionally, members of central and local legislative and executive authorities, international representatives from various organizations, and youth from Rustavi participated in the event.
The “Youth Forum for Local Municipalities” was founded on February 12, 2018, at the initiative of the Sports and Youth Affairs Commission of the Tbilisi City Assembly and with the support of the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia.
Its purpose is to enhance cooperation between municipalities, improve communication between young people and local authorities, and promote the implementation of youth policy.
At the event, Athea’s Vice-President, Mayor of Dusheti Municipality Manana (Matsatso) Narimanidze, Advisor to the Executive Director of the Association, Member of the Tbilisi City Council, Vladimer Bozhadze and Athea’s Deputy Executive Director – Lasha Archvadze, as well as members of the central, local legislative and executive authorities, international Representatives of organizations and Rustaveli youth took part. The forum included a discussion format where the participants discussed the issues presented in the direction of strengthening the role of local government in the implementation of the state youth strategy for 2023-2026, the state internship program, financing youth projects and strengthening the participation of young people in the decision-making process. “Youth Forum of Local Self-Government” was established on February 12, 2018 at the initiative of the Sports and Youth Affairs Commission of the Tbilisi City Council and with the support of the National Association of Local Self-Governments of Georgia (ATEA). Its purpose is to deepen cooperation between municipalities, improve communication between young people and local authorities, and promote the implementation of youth policy.
