The members of the Monitoring Committee of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, currently visiting Tbilisi, arrived today in the village of Odzisi, near the occupation line.
Along with the delegation of the Council of Europe, the Executive Director of the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia, Tbilisi City Assembly member Nino Rukhadze, Tbilisi Municipality City Assembly members Levan Abashidze, Vladimer Bozhadze, and Otar Grigolia, who is also a Congress Monitoring Committee member, as well as representatives of the State Security Service, were present in the municipality.
The Georgian side provided the guests with a detailed account of the situation on the ground resulting from the occupation. Attention was drawn to the so-called “borderization” along the occupation line, the discrimination on ethnic grounds against Georgians, and the illegal arrests of the local population.
The representatives of the Council of Europe, in a show of solidarity, thanked the hosts for the opportunity to understand the situation on the ground and once again emphasized their unwavering support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The delegation of the Congress Monitoring Committee, having completed their visit and discussions, will depart from Tbilisi today.
