Tamar Frangishvili, Team Leader of the NALAG Project “Women’s Increased Leadership For Democracy In Georgia” participated in a meeting held by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat). The meeting focused on presenting the results of research on gender statistics conducted by Geostat.
The meeting, which was attended by representatives of the administration and local governments of the Kakheti, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, and Shida Kartli regions, was held on June 15-16 in Borjomi with the financial support of UN Women.
At the seminar, Tamar Frangishvili presented a report prepared by UN Women in collaboration with NALAG and Geostat. According to Tamar Frangishvili, this report will assist municipalities in implementing the local gender equality agenda even more efficiently.
“The report incorporates gender equality indicators that are of a recommendatory nature and will help municipalities to further develop evidence-based gender equality policies. In the future, this document will contribute to the implementation of the gender equality agenda on the ground, as well as monitoring and evaluation of progress,” said Tamar Frangishvili.
During the two-day workshop, the participants were informed of the research results conducted by Geostat, as well as their awareness on gender statistics was raised. This included a methodological overview and the main findings of the time use survey and the national survey on violence against women. Additionally, the workshop presented portal for regional and municipal statistics, the main directions for the development of Georgia’s statistical system, Geostat’s products and services, and future plans. Methodological features of statistical indicator calculation and issues related to their use were also discussed. The participants addressed the needs for various gender statistical indicators and data in the planning and decision-making process.
A discussion was also held during the meeting, where participants addressed the needs related to statistical data at the municipal level and explored the possibilities of incorporating these needs into Geostat’s future plans.
