The National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat), with the financial support UN Women, held an off-site working meeting on December 11–12 in Batumi with representatives of the governance and self-governance bodies from the Adjara Autonomous Republic, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, and Guria regions.
The event was attended by Tamar Frangishvili, Lead Consultant of the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia project “Women’s Increased Leadership for Democracy in Georgia,” who delivered a presentation within the framework of the meeting titled ” Statistics of Women and Men and Their Importance for Municipalities: Minimum List of Indicators.”
The event was led by Gogita Todradze, Executive Director of Geostat. Participants included representatives from the Government of Autonomous Republic of Adjara, the regional administrations of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti and Guria, and municipal representatives.
During the two-day working meeting, participants familiarized themselves in detail with the results of surveys conducted by Geostat in the field of gender statistics, specifically the methodological overview and key findings of the Time Use Survey and the National Study on Violence against Women. They also reviewed the regional and municipal statistics portal, the main directions of development of Georgia’s statistical system, products developed by Geostat, enhanced services, and future plans. In addition, methodological peculiarities of calculating statistical indicators and issues related to their use were discussed. Discussions covered various statistical indicators and data needs concerning women and men in the context of planning and decision-making processes.
Within the framework of the meeting, a discussion was held where participants addressed needs related to statistical data at the municipal level and explored opportunities for reflecting these in Geostat’s future plans.
