The President of NALAG and Mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze, made a statement on the occasion of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence:
“This year, the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia once again joins the global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.
Violence, in any form, is unacceptable, and there is no justification for it. It is crucial to remember that every individual has fundamental rights, and violations of these rights—such as gender-based and domestic violence—are serious crimes.
In recent years, both central and local governments have made significant efforts to empower women, especially survivors of violence, so they can feel the support and care of the state. While the country has made substantial progress, greater mobilization is still needed to intensify this support.
Most importantly, we must work toward transforming societal attitudes about gender-based violence. It is vital for every member of society to understand that indifference and inaction are unacceptable.”
