SEEDGUARD Study Tour to Be Held in Georgia

March 31, 2025 /Posted byNALAG

Within the framework of the EU co-financed project β€œSEEDGUARD: Seed Guardians for Biodiversity, Agrobiodiversity, Ecosystem Services, and Climate Adaptation,” a two-day study tour will be held on April 10–11, 2025 in Mtskheta and Marneuli municipalities.

The study tour will be organized by the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia (NALAG) and will involve representatives from Bulgaria, Turkey, and Romania.

During the visit, international partners will meet with local farmers, seed producers, and agricultural entrepreneurs. The tour will provide an opportunity for knowledge exchange and presentation of best practices related to the preservation of traditional seeds, agrobiodiversity, and sustainable agriculture.

The SEEDGUARD project is being implemented with co-financing from the European Union and involves partner organizations from four Black Sea countries: the Union of the Bulgarian Black Sea Local Authorities (lead partner), the Eastern Black Sea Development Agency (Turkey), the Association Global Project (Romania), and the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia (Georgia).

The project aims to protect traditional vegetable seeds and species, enhance agrobiodiversity, promote healthy food diversity, strengthen food security, and support ecosystem services. It also seeks to improve accessibility for vegetable producers through the establishment of collections and seed banks of traditional vegetable varieties, with the active participation of local communities.

Who Should Attend

  • Local farmers and seed producers, particularly those working with traditional vegetable varieties;
  • Agricultural entrepreneurs involved in crop production, seed preservation, or greenhouse farming;
  • Local agricultural specialists;
  • Students interested in agriculture and seed production;
  • Representatives of local self-government bodies engaged in rural development and agricultural policy.

Participation will be especially beneficial for individuals and organizations interested in seed conservation, agrobiodiversity, sustainable farming practices, and climate-resilient agriculture.
