Mayors of municipalities that are members of the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia (NALAG), along with NALAG’s Deputy Executive Director, Lasha Archvadze, participated in a working meeting organized by the Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee of the Parliament of Georgia.
Representatives from the Ministries of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Finance, Economy, and Sustainable Development were also involved in the meeting.
The Minister of Regional Development of Georgia, Kakhaber Guledani, presented new legislative initiatives prepared by the Ministry, which are set to be submitted to the Parliament in the near future.
The discussions covered areas of inter-municipal cooperation, the transfer and management of municipal property, municipal budgets, grant management, construction permits, and oversight issues.
Participants also explored opportunities to improve the efficient use of funds from regional development funds. Special attention was given to the rural development program, with mayors presenting their views and proposals on the matter.
It was noted during the discussions that the program significantly contributes to the rural development process but requires modernization and updates, particularly in terms of increasing funding and ensuring closer alignment with the needs of municipalities.
The participants agreed that expanded meetings in this format, covering these and other additional topics, will continue in the future.
