To implement the local agenda of gender equality and to enhance the qualifications of municipalities, the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia has initiated a series of training sessions.
The first meeting was organized for the signatory municipalities of “The European Charter for Equality of Women and Men in Local Life” from Eastern Georgia. Representatives responsible for gender equality from ten self-governing unitsâGardabani, Kvareli, Mtskheta, Aspindza, Lagodekhi, Gori, Ninotsminda, Rustavi, Akhmeta, and Bolnisiâparticipated, along with representatives from NALAG.
The two-day training course, held with the support of the UN Women and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, was welcomed by Lasha Archvadze, the Deputy Executive Director of NALAG, and Tamar Frangishvili, the team leader of the “Womenâs Increased Leadership For Democracy In Georgia” project.
In his welcoming speech, Lasha Archvadze discussed NALAG’s priorities, including issues of gender equality and mainstreaming. He also informed the participants about the events planned and implemented by the association within the framework of national and international commitments.
Following this, Tamar Frangishvili focused on the goals and principles of the project. She noted that the current training course would enable participants to more effectively introduce and implement the tasks defined by the charter.
The training was led by Mamuka Gachechiladze, an expert in gender equality issues, who introduced the updated European Charter and the thematic directions of the equality plan to the municipal representatives in detail.
It should be noted that the training course included group work and discussion formats, where participants reviewed the needs within the municipalities regarding the monitoring of the European Charter’s implementation and discussed ways to address these needs.
The training was held within the framework of the joint project by NALAG and UN Women, “Women’s Leadership for Democracy in Georgia.” The organizers noted that a similar event will be organized for the municipalities of Western Georgia, with participation from 15 self-governing units that signed the charter.
