Nino Rukhadze, Vice-President of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) and Executive Director of the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia, was on a working visit to Nicosia.
The two-day meeting of the General Secretariat and Directors, which was organized on April 23-24, was chaired by Fabrizio Rossi, the General Secretary of CEMR.
It’s noteworthy that the event was also a platform to honour and appreciate the outstanding contributions of CEMR’s member associations. Davit Melua, in particular, was recognized for his instrumental role in developing self-government in Georgia and strengthening relations between Georgian and European municipalities.
David Melua, an expert in local government issues and the director of the “Partnership at the local level for public administration reform in Georgia” project, led NALAG for 20 years and still closely cooperates with many international organizations and European associations of local self-government.
The summary of CEMR’s 2023 activities, the EU Green Deal and the “Women in Politics” project were discussed at the event. Meeting attendees were also informed about the future plans.
During the two-day meeting, the attendees actively participated in intensive round table discussions covering various topics, including talks on deepening international relations and presentations of CEMR’s new activities and projects for 2024.
It is also worth noting that at the event, the Georgian side expressed an initiative to hold the next session of the General Secretariat and directors in Georgia, specifically in Batumi.
