In order to further enhance the involvement of local governments in legislative activities and facilitate multi-level dialogue, Nino Rukhadze, Executive Director of the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia (NALAG), met with Irakli Kadagishvili, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Regional Policy and Self-Government.
The parties discussed various forms of cooperation and future prospects.
Nino Rukhadze provided Irakli Kadagishvili with information on the establishment of the Legal Issues Committee and introduced its main areas of activity. In particular, the committeeâcomposed of the heads of municipalitiesâfocuses on participating in the decision-making process on local self-government issues at the state level, preparing and submitting conclusions and recommendations on draft laws and by-laws related to self-government, as well as drafting legislative and regulatory proposals for submission to relevant authorities. Additionally, the committee takes part in discussions on these initiatives, contributing to the protection of municipal interests and the advancement of decentralization.
By mutual agreement, a memorandum of cooperation will be signed in the near future. One of its key provisions will be the establishment of a mechanism, through the NALAG platform, for promptly informing local self-governments about draft legal acts initiated by the government and the legislature.
This initiative will enable local government representatives to receive timely and accurate information on legislative developments, thereby improving coordination and fostering greater municipal involvement in the decision-making process.
The meeting, held in the Parliament of Georgia, was attended by Member of Parliament Vladimer Bozhadze and local self-government expert Aleksandre Svanishvili.
