The Legal Issues Committee of the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia (NALAG) has initiated a series of regional meetings to engage with local leaders and address key concerns.
In its initial phase, the committee convened a meeting with the mayors of municipalities in Kvemo Kartli and Mtskheta-Mtianeti regions.
The primary objective of the meeting was to pinpoint the challenges, issues, and needs faced by local governments. This insight will guide the committee in crafting targeted legislative proposals and advocating for necessary amendments through relevant authorities.
Discussions placed special emphasis on critical topics, such as the establishment of public legal entities, legal frameworks governing municipal property management, and practices surrounding the extraction and utilization of natural resources.
The meetings also saw active participation from members of the Georgian Parliament’s Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee, alongside senior NALAG representatives.
Similar gatherings are planned for other regions to ensure comprehensive outreach.
Notably, NALAG established the Legal Issues Committee on February 19, 2025. The committee is dedicated to actively engaging in municipalities’ legal processes, safeguarding their interests, reviewing state-initiated legal acts, and providing well-informed recommendations.
Additionally, the committee is focused on developing legislative proposals and drafting by-laws to advance self-governance and support the broader decentralization process.
