NALAG organized the second meeting of Mtskheta-Mtianeti Inter-Municipal Platform.

July 8, 2024 /Posted byNALAG

The inter-municipal platforms, formed by the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia, continue to operate intensely.
The second meeting was recently held for the self-governing units of Mtskheta-Mtianeti, focusing on the personal assistant service.
The meeting was opened by the vice-president of NALAG and the mayor of Dusheti municipality, Manana (Matsatso) Narimanidze, along with the executive director of NALAG, Nino Rukhadze.
According to the speakers, the needs are linked to the transfer of social sphere powers delegated to municipalities. The platform assists the self-governing units in sharing knowledge, information, and practices about current programs. This, in turn, impacts the development of mechanisms and the provision of adequate services to the population.
The audience also received welcome speeches from Nikoloz Rosebashvili, the head of the Department for Relations with Regions and Local Self-Government Agencies of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia; Tamar Kurtanidze, Head of the Department of Social Protection, IDPs and Labour Policy, Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories of Georgia; Aleksandre Svanishvili, an expert in local self-government issues; and Nino Davitashvili, a representative of UNICEF.”
During the first part of the meeting, NALAG’s expert, Nino Zurabishvili, explained the legal basis for delegating the personal assistant service. Tamar Kurtanidze then provided a detailed review of the service and discussed its current practice.
Following the presentations, the meeting transitioned into a discussion format where participants exchanged views on the challenges of delegating personal assistant services. This event took place at Dusheti municipality’s city hall and involved employees of social services and departments from the municipalities of Mtskheta-Mtianeti region. Lasha Archvadze, the deputy executive director of NALAG, also took part in the meeting.
It’s worth noting that through the NALAG initiative, inter-municipal social platforms have already been established in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti and Guria regions.
As discussed at the meeting, similar platforms are planned for creation in other regions of Georgia.
