The National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia, with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and funding from the European Union, has launched a new project titled ..EU4ITD:Advancing Decentralized, Effective and Inclusive Governance in Georgiaββ.
The project aims to promote good governance in municipalities and improve the quality of municipal services. It will target the municipalities of Racha-Lechkhumi, Kvemo Svaneti, Imereti, Kakheti, and Guria.
Two working meetings were held today to provide detailed information about the project. The mayors of the target municipalities, the chairpersons of the city assemblies, and staff members of the city hall administrations attended.
At the meetings, which were opened by NALAG’s Executive Director, Nino Rukhadze, several key figures participated, including Koka Kighuradze, Executive Director of the Management Systems Development Center (MSDC), project assistant Elene Chkheidze, and Nikoloz Rosebashvili, Head of the Local Self-Government Development and Policy Department at the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure. Representatives from UNDP, Giorgi Nasrashvili and Nino Kakubava, also attended the meeting.
As mentioned during the project presentation, target municipalities have the opportunity to submit competitive proposals on innovative municipal services and inter-municipal cooperation to secure grant funding.
It is important to note that, in addition to the grant component, the project also provides support in several areas, including generating innovative ideas and drafting projects, implementing citizen feedback mechanisms, fostering inter-municipal cooperation, and strengthening the City Council’s accountability and transparency capacities.
The project, EU4ITD:Advancing Decentralized, Effective and Inclusive Governance in Georgiaβ, is scheduled to conclude in April 2025.
