The National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia (NALAG) continues to actively hold regional meetings within the framework of the Inter-Municipal Social Platform, enabling municipalities to share their experiences, discuss existing challenges, and develop effective solutions tailored to local needs in close coordination with the central government.
This time, a meeting was organized in Senaki Municipality, involving representatives of the social services of municipalities from the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti and Guria regions, alongside representatives from the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia, the State Care Agency, and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
The first part of the meeting, led by NALAG expert and member of the Council of Europe’s Group of Independent Experts, Nino Zurabishvili, was entirely dedicated to introducing the ongoing process of delegating the personal assistant service and discussing existing challenges. The session also focused on practical ways to overcome legal and administrative barriers and ensure the continuity of the service.
The meeting continued in an interactive discussion format, where participants had the opportunity to receive specific answers from relevant agencies regarding practical issues related to the service.
The second session of the meeting was devoted to social challenges caused by climate change. Representatives from UNICEF, Nino Davitashvili and Nino Dzotsenidze, shared information with the attendees about the impact of climate change, the importance of municipal programs for responding to shocks, including measures to protect against heatwaves, and the experiences of European countries.
It is noteworthy that, similar to the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti and Guria regions, the Inter-Municipal Social Platform also operates in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Kakheti, and Kvemo Kartli regions.
