The Legal Issues Committee of the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia (NALAG) held another working meeting with the mayors of municipalities in the Kakheti region as part of its regional meetings.
The purpose of the meeting was to identify legal issues based on the actual needs of municipalities, which will assist the committee in initiating changes that address existing practical demands.
The meeting was conducted in a discussion format, with particular attention given to mechanisms for strengthening the decentralization process.
Participants discussed priority areas that impact the effectiveness of local governance, including issues related to the delivery of healthcare and social services, management of natural resources, provision of communal services, and property management.
The meetings also saw active participation from members of the Georgian Parliament’s Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee, alongside senior NALAG representatives.
Notably, NALAG established the Legal Issues Committee on February 19, 2025. The committee is dedicated to actively engaging in municipalities’ legal processes, safeguarding their interests, reviewing state-initiated legal acts, and providing well-informed recommendations.
Additionally, the committee is focused on developing legislative proposals and drafting by-laws to advance self-governance and support the broader decentralization process.
Similar meetings are planned for other regions to ensure comprehensive outreach.
