Keda Municipality became the first self-governing entity from the Adjara region to officially sign the European Charter for Equality of Women and Men in Local Life, developed by the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) in 2006, through the advocacy of the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia (NALAG).
By signing the document, Keda Municipality commits to implementing measures to ensure equal rights and opportunities for women and men, including the development of an action plan that outlines specific steps, priorities, and necessary resources to create an equitable environment.
As of today, 32 municipalities in Georgia have signed the Charter, but interest in the initiative is growing, with more self-governing entities expressing their desire to join the document.
The advocacy of the Charter is carried out within the framework of the project βWomenβs Increased Leadership for Democracy in Georgia,β implemented by NALAG with the support of UN Women, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, and the Government of Norway.
