In Spain, in the city of Barcelona, the annual forum of the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) was held, in which members of the Georgian delegation participated.
On the international platform, the Georgian side was represented by Nino Vardosanidze, a member of the UCLG delegation and Chair of the Legal Issues and Human Rights Protection Commission of the Tbilisi Municipality Council, and Giorgi Khurodze, a member of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) delegation and Deputy of the capital’s City Council.
The forum annually brings together representatives of local and regional authorities from various countries around the world and aims to strengthen cooperation at global and local levels, form a common vision on contemporary challenges, and expand partnership networks.
Within the framework of the event, numerous plenary sessions and thematic discussions took place, where attention was devoted to the organization’s strategic directions and priorities of contemporary urban policy. Participants discussed systemic challenges facing cities and municipalities in a rapidly changing global environment.
Members of the Georgian delegation actively engaged in working sessions and discussions, where, together with colleagues, they examined effective instruments of municipal governance, practical approaches to sustainable urban development, and opportunities for cooperation with European institutional structures.
During the forum, particular attention was paid to strengthening local democracy, increasing the participation of citizens—especially youth and women—in decision-making processes, localizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and deepening partnership cooperation between cities and regions.
The annual forum of the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) concludes today.
