July 22, 2024 /Posted byNALAG

Promotion of the effective implementation of obligations under the European Charter of Equality at the local level is one of the priority directions of the National Association of Local Self-Governments of Georgia. Based on this, Athea continues trainings focused on raising the qualifications of representatives of municipalities. On July 18-19, organized by Athea in Chakvi, with the support of the United Nations Women’s Organization and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, a two-day seminar was held, and in it the municipalities of Khobi, Senak, Tsageri, Tskaltubo, signatories of the “European Charter on the Equality of Women and Men in Local Life” from Western Georgia. Representatives of Poti’s Zugdidi, Zestafon and Chokhatauri, as well as Samtredia, Baghdati, Kutaisi, Ozurgeti, Ambrolauri and Oni participated. The training, which was opened by Lasha Archvadze, the deputy executive director of Athea , and Tamar Frangishvili , the leading consultant of the “Women’s leadership for democracy in Georgia” project, was devoted to a detailed introduction to the thematic directions of the updated European charter and equality plan. It is worth noting that the training course included the format of group work and discussion, where the participants reviewed the needs in the municipalities in the direction of monitoring the implementation of the European Charter and discussed ways to overcome the challenges together with Mamuka Gachechiladze, an expert in gender equality issues. During the training, the representatives of the municipalities shared their experiences with each other. The analyst of the “Women’s leadership for democracy in Georgia” project, Marika Jobava, a representative of the UN Women’s Organization, summarized the seminar together with Tamar Frangishvili and introduced the future plans to the participants . The training was held within the framework of the joint project of Athea and the United Nations Women’s Organization “Women’s leadership for democracy in Georgia”. A similar event was organized for the municipalities of Eastern Georgia, in which the representatives of the relevant services of the 10 self-governing units that signed the charter were involved.
