Within the framework of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, a new political group “Patriots for Europe” has been established.

March 31, 2026 /Posted byNALAG

At the ongoing 50th plenary session of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, with the participation of representatives from the Georgian Dream party, a new political group called “Patriots for Europe in the Congress” has been created. Nino Vardosanidze, Deputy Head of the Georgian delegation, Chairperson of the Legal Issues and Human Rights Protection Commission of the Tbilisi Municipal Assembly, was elected as one of its Vice-Presidents.

At this stage, the political group “Patriots for Europe in the Congress” consists of representatives from the political factions of six countries: Georgia, Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic, Italy, and Spain. The group is led by the Hungarian representative Anna Magyar (Fidesz-KDNP). Its Vice-Presidents are Nino Vardosanidze and the Czech Richard Vereš (ANO 2011).

The group’s goal is to strengthen cooperation among pro-sovereignty, patriotic European politicians. It will focus on issues related to the protection of national security and will ensure that the positions of the factions belonging to this political group are voiced in the Congress on various important matters.

As Nino Vardosanidze stated, the creation of the new political group is a timely and necessary step. In her assessment, this platform will enable Congress members to be more active and effective in their work. She added that the members have already confirmed their readiness for mutual cooperation and support within the group.

The political group “Patriots for Europe in the Congress” has also been joined by the following members of the Georgian delegation: Gogi Putkaradze, member of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara; Beka Vacharadze, Mayor of Poti Municipality; Zurab Abashidze, Chairman of the Tbilisi Municipal Assembly; Tamar Khachidze, member of the Gardabani Municipal Assembly; and Varlam Tsiklauri, Mayor of Akhaltsikhe Municipality.
The formation of political groups within the Congress is proceeding gradually, with representatives of various political forces joining together.

It is also noteworthy that Bela Mosia, representative of the “Gakharia For Georgia” party and member of the Zugdidi Municipal Assembly, has joined the Congress’s group of Socialists, Greens, and Progressive Democrats, while Tekla Meburishvili, representative of the “Girchi” party and member of the Kutaisi Municipal Assembly, has joined the group of European Conservatives and Reformists.
