With the support of the International Education Center and NALAG, 20 public servants will participate in a professional development program in Greece

June 30, 2025 /Posted byNALAG

With the backing of the International Education Center (IEC) and the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia (NALAG), 20 public servants employed in local self-governments will travel to Greece to participate in the international training program “Fundamental Issues of EU Studies,” organized by the European Public Law Organization (EPLO).

The participants were selected through a three-stage competition organized by the IEC in collaboration with the EPLO and the European Law and Governance School (ELGS).

The training course will take place from July 7 to 18 in Athens and Legrana, historic centers of European democracy and law. Participants will gain knowledge about the institutional system of the European Union, its legislation, judicial processes, and matters related to Georgia’s European integration. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate from the EPLO.

Today, a meeting with the scholarship recipients was held by the executive directors of NALAG and the IEC, Nino Rukhadze and Nunu Mitskevich, respectively, along with the head of the EPLO’s regional representation, Ioseb Nanobashvili, and NALAG’s deputy executive directors, Tatiana Bokuchava and Lasha Archvadze.

The project organizers congratulated the participants on their success in the competition and wished them well in this new stage of professional development.

During the meeting, the program’s objectives, training modules, and its significance for the development of local self-governments were discussed. It was emphasized that the project contributes to strengthening local governance resources and aligning with European governance standards, particularly in the context of Georgia’s European integration, which remains one of the country’s top priorities. The symbolic role of the host country, Greece, in the context of European public administration was also highlighted.

The training curriculum covers the EU’s institutional structure, legislative processes, judicial system, membership criteria, and other key topics, enabling participants to apply the acquired knowledge in their respective municipalities in Georgia.

As part of the program, participants will also hold meetings with representatives of various public institutions and the European Union, further enriching their professional experience.

All expenses related to the program will be covered by the IEC.

It is noteworthy that a memorandum of cooperation has been signed between NALAG and the IEC, which, among other objectives, promotes the education, professional development, and employment of public servants abroad to support the development of local self-governments and regions.
