From June 2-6, the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia (NALAG) hosted partners from Romania and Moldova as part of the project βEcoYOU: Clean and Green minds for an environmentally friendly behavior.β
Within the framework of the visit, various types of events were held, organized by NALAG with the support of the Gori Municipality Development and Tani and Tedzmi Protected Landscape Agency and the active involvement of Soso Mezvrishvili, President of the Young Researchers and Analysts Union.
The main goal of the events was to raise environmental awareness, promote eco-friendly practices, and enhance the engagement of youth and local communities.
The activities involved NALAGβs Deputy Executive Directors, Tatiana Bokuchava and Lasha Archvadze, as well as the International Projects Development Manager, Mariam Jincharadze, along with foreign partners, local youth, representatives of non-governmental organizations, employees of the Gori Municipality City Hall and Council, teachers, and individuals interested in the topic.
The five-day program included both theoretical and practical components, such as discussions on biodiversity and ecologically responsible behaviors, training on organizing eco-camps, focus group work, and a joint camp.
Participants exchanged educational and inspirational experiences aimed at raising environmental awareness and implementing sustainable practices.
Special attention was given to waste management, minimizing the impact on the natural environment, and using sustainable materials.
On June 5, World Environment Day, a cleanup campaign was held as part of the project, with active participation from youth.
In connection with this day, a meeting titled β8 Overtime Hours for Positive Environmental Impactβ was also held, where specialists from various fields shared their professional experiences with participants. Simultaneously, focus group discussions took place.
The project, implemented under the Interreg VI-B NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme with co-financing from the European Union, is being carried out in Georgia by NALAG.
The project aims to increase the engagement of communities and local authorities in environmental protection activities, particularly in reducing microplastic pollution in rivers, lakes, and coastal areas.
The βEcoYOUβ project facilitates transnational cooperation among environmental NGOs, educational institutions, public officials, and youth groups to effectively address pollution issues through shared resources and experience exchange.
The project is also being implemented in Moldova and Romania.
