On April 1–4, the Executive Bureau of the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) was held in Seville, with the participation of Tbilisi Municipality Council members Nino Vardosanidze and Ana Kakabadze from the Georgian side.
The Bureau meeting included sessions and dialogues on local financial management, economic development strategies in municipalities, and various Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Representatives of the Georgian delegation were also actively involved in the World Forum on Local Economic Development, organized by UCLG, which took place on April 3–4.
The main topics discussed at the forum included: care-based approaches to local economic development; economic and territorial strategies in intermediary cities for creating opportunities; preparations for the World Summit on Social Development – bringing together initiatives and building synergies; financing local economic development – challenges from subnational governments; and territories in conflict – local economic development as a mechanism for peacebuilding.
The forum was attended by representatives of local authorities, development, and economic experts, as well as representatives of international organizations.
As part of their visit to Seville, representatives of the Georgian delegation also held a meeting with the Secretary General of the UCLG Asia-Pacific (UCLG-ASPAC), during which the parties discussed prospects for cooperation between Georgian and regional municipalities.
