The training completed in Marneuli Municipality within the framework of the project “Guardians of Seeds for Biodiversity, Agrobiodiversity, Ecosystem Services, and Climate Adaptation.”
The project is implemented by NALAG and co-financed by the European Union under the Black Sea Basin Programme. The main objective of the project is to protect the seeds of traditional vegetable varieties and species, enhance agrobiodiversity, promote healthy food diversity, strengthen food security, and support ecosystem services. Additionally, the project aims to create a model for improving access for vegetable producers by establishing seed collections and banks for old traditional vegetable varieties, with active participation from local communities.
On the second day of the seminar the participants, along with the project coordinator Nino Zurabishvili and expert Tatia Khositashvili, were introduced to the possibilities of creating a local seed bank and the best practices in this area from various countries. The meeting also covered the project’s future plans.
The two-day training, held in Marneuli Municipality, concluded with a tour of the greenhouses.
Seminar participants visited the greenhouses of Modus College and the Green Eternity Cooperative, where they learned about the on-site technological services.
The project “Guardians of Seeds for Biodiversity, Agrobiodiversity, Ecosystem Services, and Climate Adaptation” also aims to demonstrate a model for improving access for vegetable producers by establishing seed collections and banks of traditional vegetable varieties, with active participation from local communities.
