The meeting of the Monitoring Committee of the Congress of the Council of Europe is currently underway in Strasbourg, with the participation of the Head of the Georgian Delegation and Deputy Chairman of the Tbilisi City Council, Zurab Abashidze; Vice-President of NALAG, Chairman of the Tbilisi City Council, Giorgi Tkemaladze; and member of the Tbilisi City Council, Otar Grigolia.
Before discussing the issues, the delegates participated in the election of the First Vice-Chairman, after which the Committee members addressed various important topics, including local and regional democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.
Today, reports on the implementation of the European Charter of Local Self-Government in Liechtenstein, San Marino, Poland, Greece, and other countries were approved.
The Committee also discussed the monitoring of local and regional elections in various countries and the implementation of European Court of Justice decisions. In the second half of the meeting, delegates will discuss the current situation in Georgia and Ukraine.
At the end of the day, the Monitoring Committee’s work plan for 2025 will be developed.
