The National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia (NALAG) extends heartfelt congratulations to the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe on its 30th anniversary.
NALAG looks forward to achieving more significant reforms collaboratively in the future.
Notably, NALAG, established with the support of the Council of Europe, has faithfully partnered with the Congress for two decades, championing the core values of the Council in human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.
Since 2006, Georgia has maintained a delegation at the Congress, contributing to the nation’s democratic development by engaging in discussions on various European issues, including human rights, environmental protection, gender equality, and sustainable development.
For both the association and Georgia, the Congress remains a crucial platform, offering assistance and support in implementing decentralization reforms.
The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, formed 30 years ago through a resolution by the Committee of Ministers, received an even more robust mandate in 2023 at the Reykjavik Summit. This mandate emphasizes the promotion of local and regional democracy, adherence to the European Charter of Local Authorities, and the broad protection of human rights and the rule of law.
”After 30 years, the Congress proudly continues its work,” states Mathieu Mori, the General Secretary of the Congress.
