An inter-municipal social platform was established in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region to share knowledge, information, and practices about the ongoing programs at the municipal level and promote the joint provision of services.
The National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia initiated and organized the platform, uniting all four Mtskheta-Mtianeti municipalities.
In connection with this, a meeting took place in the municipality of Mtskheta, which was attended by the Vice-President of NALAG, the Mayor of Dusheti municipality, Manana (Matsatso) Narimanidze, the Deputy Executive Director of the association, Lasha Archvadze, the expert of the Council of Europe, Nino Zurabishvili, and the representatives of self-governing authorities of Mtskheta, Dusheti, Tianeti, and Kazbegi. Heads of units and representatives of relevant services also participated.
The meeting was opened by Manana (Matsatso) Narimanidze, along with the Mayor of Mtskheta municipality, Dimitri Zurabishvili.
The speakers discussed the need to promote the proper implementation of delegated powers to municipalities and emphasized NALAG’s important involvement in this process.
The first part of the meeting was devoted to discussing the concept and operation of the inter-municipal platform, which Nino Zurabishvili introduced to the audience. She spoke about the goals of the UNICEF/NALAG partnership projects and reviewed the planning mechanisms of municipal social services.
At the meeting, the Mayor of Dusheti, Matsatso Narimanidze, spoke about need-based social programming and the municipality’s experience. Following this, the participants determined the agenda items for the platform’s next meeting and discussed future plans.
It should be noted that on the initiative of NALAG, inter-municipal social platforms have already been created in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti and Guria regions. As mentioned at the meeting, there are plans to establish a similar platform in the other regions of Georgia.
